Castello di Monsanto

Castello di Monsanto

The Castello di Monsanto dates back to the middle of the 18th century and for fifty years has become the home of fine Chianti of Bianchi family. Aldo Bianchi became owner of the castle in 1961 and from the first time he has been fascinated by the picturesque landscape of the place, in the green hills of Val d'Elsa.

The castle became the wedding gift for his son Fabrizio and his wife Giuliana and this was the beginning of a beautiful story of love and passion for wine. Fabrizio and Giuliana began to plant new vineyards and to restructure the surrounding hamlets, aware of the immense value of the land of Chianti Classico. The first cru of Chianti Classico was born in 1962, when the first vinification took place under this denomination. Over the years, Fabrizio took more and more revolutionary decisions, choosing to devote himself to Sangiovese: today 56 of 72 hectares of vineyards owned by the family have this valuable vine. The forest is the cradle of Castello di Monsanto’s vineyards, crowned by the headwaters of Cepparello and dell'Amaioni and crossed by groundwater. Respect for nature, for its time and for its spaces, has always been important, as demonstrated by the rejection of any chemical treatment. In 1982, Fabrizio did begin construction of a gallery, using the technique of medieval wooden ribs to give shape to a long and fascinating Etruscan arch lowered: under these vaults, the wines rest, maturing or aging in one of the most important Italian bottles archive.

Since 1996, the management of Castello di Monsanto has passed to the third Bianchi generation: the daughter Laura, who has made the revolutionary choices of her father a solid tradition of her winery. In the light of the techniques taught by her father and the experience handed down by the people of Monsanto, Laura has worked on identity, recognition and appeal of her wines...emotions and passions are enclosed in these fine Chianti.
