Muffato 'Calcaia' Barberani 2010 - 50cl

The Calcaia Orvieto Classico Superiore Doc “Muffa Nobile” by Barberani was founded in 1986 after a trial that lasted nearly a decade and began in the late of 1970. This is Dr. Luigi A. Barberani and winemaker Dr. Maurizio Castelli to start a project that brings the typical terroir in Orvieto wine. A terroir that sees the vineyards in autumn mornings, be enveloped by a thick fog that brings the grapes to be attacked by a particular mold, the “Botrytis cinerea” , it is a microscopic fungus that thanks to alternation between the typical humidity in the morning and the weather mild and windy in the afternoon, instead of turning into a harmful substance, gives rise to a “Muffa Nobile” that goes to dehydrate the grapes, concentrating the sugars and acidity. The "Muffa Nobile", together with the ability of the operators to select only those berries that show the most obvious signs of the “Botrytis cinerea”, makes this a unique sweet wine, a pearl wine Orvieto Barberani that the family has built over 50 years of history, with passion, skill, dedication and respect for tradition. A wine made from grapes that Grechetto, Trebbiano Procanico and Sauvignon Blanc, with a honeyed and spicy aroma, soft and mellow taste and style dense, rich and persistent.
