Picolit Livio Felluga 2011 - 50cl

The greatness of Picolit, a native grape diffused only in Friuli, arises, paradoxically, from a defect: due to a structural problem in the process of pollination, fertilization of the flower occurs only partially, and as a result of this only just a few grapes are able to develop on the cluster, with a high concentration of sugars and aromatics. Thus the origin of Picolit, "small" in the Friulian dialect, which draws its sweetness from the drying procedure, necessary to make a great sipping wine, while ensuring a balance with mineral notes, sufficient to provide freshness and sharpness of flavors. Livio, patriarch of the family and now close to a century of life, still takes care of the extraordinary Picolit vineyards on the karstic hills of Rosazzo, next to the homonymous famous Abbey, in an area that will fall short in a new DOCG. Plots in low density and traditional implants characterize this production, strongly marked by a territorial perspective and made even more fascinating by the particular expression of the grape involved
