Sassella Stella Retica Ar.Pe.Pe. is indisputably linked to a family history marked by strong production choices and an uncontested passion for the complex area of ​​Valtellina. In 150 years of history the Pelizzatti Perego family has faced successes alternating with various vicissitudes, culminating in the '70s, after a long period of hard work among the picturesque terraced countryside of Sondrio, on the sale of the company to a foreign group because of hereditary contrasts among the descendants of the founder. Since then Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, the homonymous nephew of the founder of the first Nebbiolo production in Valtellina whose name the company acronym derives from, has persistently pursued the dream of restoring continuity to the family production, regaining in the 80s some of the vineyards and the historic cellars of Buon Consiglio, in the meantime fallen in trouble after having started the production of generic wines. In the effort to regain credibility after years of decline, Arturo has worked on the front of his beliefs, without paying any compromise, setting its new production on the concept of "just waiting the right time": with the certainty that the time was the best way to bring out the potential of the terroir, Arturo, for the first six years after the new foundation, has let his wines to enter into the barrels of Buon Consiglio cellar without selling any product on the market. With this prerogative Ar.Pe.Pe. wines continue to go through a long aging, without considering money immobilization as a justification for exorbitant prices: Arturo just wants to donate to his wines the favors of a right refinement, to give his audience all the finesse of Nebbiolo from Valtellina. So goes for Sassella Stella Retica, whose long aging gives complexity without altering the typical freshness, in a "crescendo" of aromatic richness marked by persistence and elegance: this is what the authenticity of Valtellina can offer and this is what Ar.Pe.Pe. everyday pursues, against any grant to passing fads or easy shortcuts.
